Born in 1955 in the Göle district of Ardahan, Yalçın Aras graduated from the Department of Literature at the Atatürk Faculty of Education at Marmara University. He made a quick start in business life when he was in the first grade of primary school, by selling a few walnuts and a few apples from an upside-down peach crate that he used as a stand on the street where his house was located. He worked a job every summer while he was a student.
He founded Gökçelik in 1976. Aras, who is one of the founders of the Turkish Shelving Association and is still a member, played an active role in the establishment of the Nilüfer Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (NİLSİAD) in 1998 and the Nilüfer Organized Industrial Zone (NOSAB) in 2001. He continued his presidency at NOSAB until 2011. He continues to serve the region as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of NİLSİAD. Aras, who started working as a columnist in 2003, has written over 1000 articles. He also wrote for sectoral magazines.
